Drovers Drop a Close One Against Nelson University

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Friday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (12-9, 6-6 SAC) battled hard but ultimately suffered a four-set loss against Nelson University (13-8, 11-1 SAC). 

The Drovers opened the match with a bang, claiming a 25-22 win in the first set. It appeared that USAO was going to take a commanding two set lead, however the Lions used a late 10-0 run to claim a 25-21 win to pull the match even. The third set was another tight one, but Nelson managed to cling to a 25-21 victory for the second set in a row. The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the fourth frame, prior to closing out the match with a 25-17 triumph.

As a team, the Drover offense produced .146 attack percentage with 42 kills, while the Lions recorded only a .211 attack percentage and 50 kills. USAO's setters dished out a total of 39 assists, meanwhile the defense produced 64 digs and 8.0 total blocks. Nelson produced 46 assists, 68 digs, and 8.0 total blocks. Additionally, the Lions scored on nine aces, while the Drovers served up 10 aces.  

Jaliyah Cox led the Drover offense with 11 kills, in addition to three digs and a block. Samantha Perez followed with nine kills, three aces, two blocks, and eight digs. 

Chloe Conover concluded with eight kills and 19 digs on defense, while Morgan Kobe produced eight kills (.583 attack percentage) and five blocks. Giselle Calderon added six kills and a pair of blocks.

Ytzel Garcia distributed 36 assists, in addition to five digs and an ace. Brynlee Birney anchored USAO's defense with 20 digs, three assists, and three aces.

The Drovers will be back in action on Friday, October 11 as they host Texas Wesleyan University. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 PM CT inside Drover Fieldhouse.
