Drovers and Evangels Conclude in a 1-1 Draw

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Saturday night, the No. 21 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (6-2-4, 1-0-2 SAC) stretched their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 1-1 tie on the road at Mid-America Christian University (6-2-2, 1-0-2 SAC). In head-to-head matchups, the Drovers hold a commanding 21-2-1 advantage in the all-time series against the Evangels, dating to 2008.

The Drovers controlled the possession of the ball for majority of the opening half, but the Evangels claimed the lead as they scored on a set play from a corner-kick in the 27^th minute. 

Following the break, the Drovers immediately struck for the equalizer as Daniela Salinas headed in a corner-kick from Ilse de Jong in the 46^th minute. With the score knotted at 1-1, the Drovers seemingly scored the game-winning goal in the 87^th minute, but the call was reversed and determined as a hand-ball. Despite a couple chances late, the Drovers were unable to strike for the winner, thus ending in a draw.

As a team, USAO attempted a total of 16 shots, with four being on goal, while MACU attempted nine shots, three of which were on frame. The Evangels were whistled for 16 fouls, while the Drovers committed 11 infractions. MACU had two corner-kicks, in comparison to USAO's 10 attempts out of the offensive corners. 

Ashlyn Lonberg got the start between the pipes for USAO and two of the three shots that came her way, moving her career record to 31-5-5 at USAO.

The Drovers will return to the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 7 as they host Oklahoma City University. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM CT at McLaughlin Field.
