Efficient Offense Leads Blowout Victory at SCU

BETHANY, Okla. – Thursday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (6-13, 2-11 SAC) cruised to an impressive 99-80 victory on the road at Southwestern Christian University (7-11, 5-8 SAC). With the win, the Drovers improve to 25-6 against the Eagles in head-to-head matchups since Jan. 2014. Furthermore, USAO has emerged victorious in 17 of the last 18 meetings between the conference foes.

 

The Drovers jumped out to an early lead and possessed a 26-13 advantage midway through the first half. USAO kept the foot on the gas and increased the lead to 56-37 after 20 minutes of action.

Following halftime, the teams exchanged baskets and the Drovers still controlled a comfortable 72-53 lead with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. USAO's offense caught fire again down the stretch to gain more separation and close out the road-win.

 

At the conclusion of the contest, USAO's offense shot an incredible 42-64 (.656) from the field, 12-22 (.545) from beyond the arc, and 3-6 (.500) from the free-throw line. In comparison, SCU shot 29-57 (.509) from the field, 8-22 (.364) from deep, and 14-26 (.538) from the charity stripe.

The Drovers scored 56 points in the paint and hauled in 26 rebounds. In comparison, the Eagles scored 34 points in the paint and grabbed 30 rebounds.

USAO committed nine turnovers, which led to 10 points for SCU. Meanwhile, the Eagles fumbled the ball 14 times, resulting in 21 points for the Drovers. USAO was whistled for 16 fouls, and the Eagles committed nine fouls.

 

The Drovers used a well-balanced effort to overwhelm the Eagles, led by a pair of 21-point performances from Bryce Cowns and Lendy Holmes. Cowns also contributed four rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals, while Holmes added three assists and three steals.

Mohand Ammad scored 19 points on 9-14 shooting from the field. Roman Lutton provided a spark off the bench, going for 12 points, four rebounds, and a pair of steals. Jamouri McCalister closed with 11 points, three rebounds, and four assists.

Elijah Burney concluded with seven points and two assists, while Chris Yapo added five points and seven rebounds. Brett Nix knocked down his only shot from beyond the arc.

The Drovers will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 29 as they host College of the Ozarks. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM CT inside Drover Fieldhouse.
