Drovers Suffer Lopsided Defeat at #2 Langston

LANGSTON, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (11-4, 6-3 SAC) suffered a tough 111-62 loss at No. 2 ranked Langston University (15-0, 9-0 SAC). 

 

The Lions took control from the tip-off and commanded a 31-14 lead midway through the first half. Langston continued to dominate and took a 65-32 lead at the break.

Following halftime, the Lions' momentum continued, and they held a comfortable 87-49 lead with 10 minutes to play in the game. Down the stretch, Langston maintained their pace and improved their perfect record to 15-0. 

 

USAO's offense went cold and finished the game shooting 17-53 (.321) from the field, 6-24 (.250) from beyond the arc, and 22-37 (.595) from the free-throw line. In comparison, Langston shot 38-69 (.551) from the field, 13-34 (.382) from deep, and 22-27 (.815) from the charity stripe. 

The Lions outrebounded the Drovers by a slim margin of 41-37, but they dominated the paint, outscoring the Drovers by a wide margin of 46-20 down low.

USAO committed 17 turnovers, which led to 29 points for the Lions. Meanwhile, Langston fumbled the ball only seven times, resulting in five points for USAO. The Drovers were whistled for 18 fouls, and the Lions were called for 27 infractions.

 

Jayden Patcha led the Drover offense with a dozen points and four rebounds. Anthony Ray contributed 11 points and six rebounds.

Cade Allen, Tyler Cauley, and Niieihii BlackBear each scored eight points. Logan Dolan finished with four points, followed by Reggie Quezada and Jaden Causwell with three each. Tre Edwards and Jaden Harrell each added a couple of points, while Manny Gatkek scored one point.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

On Thursday, January 18, the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma athletic department will be hosting Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night at the basketball games against Oklahoma City University. The women's game is schedule to tip-off at 6:00 PM, followed by the men's game at 7:45 PM at Drover Fieldhouse. All Science & Arts faculty and staff get free entry to the games and will be recognized for their contributions to the university.

Furthermore, the athletic department and development office have collaborated to giveaway $10 giftcards to Interurban for the first 25 USAO faculty/staff to arrive at the fieldhouse, as well as a drawing for a $250 book scholarship for a current USAO student.
