Ray and Quezada Lead Drovers to Homecoming Victory Against Arkansas Baptist

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (1-1, 0-0 SAC) got back on track with a dominant 92-64 victory on Homecoming weekend against Arkansas Baptist College (3-1, 0-0 CAC). 

 

The Drovers got off to a hot start and never let their foot off the gas. In the opening half, USAO led by as many as 17 points with 4:08 remaining. Arkansas Baptist went on a run in the final minutes of the half and cut the deficit to 42-31 going into halftime. 

 

Following halftime, the USAO offense continued to overwhelm Arkansas Baptist, outscoring the Buffaloes 50-33 in the second half. 

 

Offensively, the Drovers outperformed the Buffaloes in every category, shooting 34-64 (.531) from the field and 7-18 (.389) from deep, while ABC only went 24-65 (.369) from the field and 5-21 (.238) from beyond the arc.

USAO held a large 55-24 advantage in the rebounding battle, which included 14 offensive rebounds for the Drovers. 

The Drovers were whistled for 15 fouls, and the Buffaloes were called for 16 infractions. USAO was once again stellar at the free-throw line, going 17-19, and ABC went 11-17 (.647) at the charity stripe. So far this season, USAO is 31-33 (.939) at the free-throw line.

The Drovers dominated the painted area, outscoring the Buffaloes by a margin of 50-26 down low, and USAO outscored ABC on fastbreaks 16-2.

 

Reggie Quezada and Anthony Ray led the offensive attack for the Drovers, combining for 38 points. Quezada scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, and he finished 8-12 from the field. The New Yorker also dished out four assists. Anthony Ray concluded with 18 points on 7-11 shooting from the field, and he dished out three assists.

Manny Gatkek led a trio of Drovers that finished the evening with eight points. Gatkek nearly recorded a double-double as he hauled in 10 rebounds, as well as three blocked shots. Rory Pantophlet scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds, while Jayden Patcha closed with eight points and four rebounds. 

Cejay Mann and Jaden Causwell each contributed seven points, followed by Cade Allen with six. Jaden Harrell and Niieihii BlackBear each finished with four points and four rebounds. Logan Dolan scored two points and grabbed two rebounds. Tre Edwards dished out four assists and stole the ball twice on defense.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will now hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Springfield, Mo. To face Evangel University on Monday, Nov. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT.
