Record Setting Season Comes to an End for USAO Volleyball
WAXAHACHIE, Texas. – Tuesday night, the No.8 seeded University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (17-15, 11-11 SAC) had a historic season brought to an end with a three-set loss in the SAC Tournament quarterfinals at top-seeded Nelson University (23-9, 20-2 SAC).
The Lions jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 25-13 win in the opening set. The second set was much more competitive, and Nelson held a slim 13-11 advantage midway through. The Lions managed to cling to a 25-22 win and took a commanding two-set lead into the third frame.
The Drovers held an early advantage in the third set, but Nelson controlled a 13-11 lead halfway through. The Lions caught fire and closed wrapped up the match by going on a 12-7 run.
As a team, the Drover offense produced a .241 attack percentage with 42 kills, while the Lions recorded a .422 attack percentage and 48 kills. USAO's setters dished out a total of 41 assists, meanwhile the defense produced 47 digs and 4.0 total blocks. Nelson produced 46 assists, 51 digs, and 5.0 total block. The Drovers tallied three aces, while the Lions had six.
Jaliyah Cox led the Drovers with an impressive offensive performance, finishing with 14 kills on a .286 attack percentage. Victoria Wright produced 12 kills on a .229 attack percentage, followed by Chloe Conover with seven kills and three block assists.
Ytzel Garcia recorded her sixth double-double of the season as she distributed 37 assists, in addition to 14 digs.
Brynlee Birney anchored USAO's defense with 14 digs and three assists.
Despite the loss, 2025 was the best season in program history, with the Drovers setting a new wins record (17) and it is the first time that they have finished with a record above .500. USAO also earned three SAC Player of the Week honors (Ytzel Garcia 2x Setter of the Week, Brynlee Birney Defensive Player of the Week).
Among the numerous team records that were achieved this season, six different players set new program records.
