Errors Prove Costly in Tightly Contested Match against OCU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday evening the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (9-7, 3-4 SAC) was dealt a tough three-set loss against Oklahoma City University (4-8, 1-5 SAC). Despite losing in straight sets, the match was decided by a total of only nine points, and the Drovers scored at least 20 points in each frame.
The teams traded points for majority of the first set, prior to the Stars pulling away late to claim a 25-20 win. The second set was even more tightly contested, and the Drovers used a late surge to extend the set, but OCU still managed to outlast USAO 27-25. The final set was also decided by only two points as the Stars clung to a 25-23 win to wrap up the match.
As a team, the Drover offense produced only a .028 attack percentage with 30 kills, while the Stars recorded a .127 attack percentage and 39 kills. USAO's setters dished out a total of 30 assists, meanwhile the defense produced 57 digs and 11.0 total blocks. OCU produced 34 assists, 46 digs, and 15.0 total blocks. Additionally, USAO recorded three service aces, while committing four service errors, in comparison to Oklahoma City's four aces and 12 errors.
The USAO offense was led by Samantha Perez, contributing 12 kills on a .286 attack percentage. Perez also added 11 digs on defense. Jaliyah Cox concluded with six kills, followed by Victoria Wright with five. Chloe Conover recorded four kills, four digs, and four block assists.
Ytzel Garcia distributed 24 assists, in addition to five digs. Brynlee Birney tallied a match-high of 20 digs, along with four assists.

The Drovers will now hit the road to take on John Brown University on Friday, Sept. 26. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT in Siloam Springs, Ark.
