Drovers Stay Hot and Put Away the Tigers in Three Sets

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-3, 2-1 SAC) claimed their eighth win in the last nine matches with a three-set victory against Central Christian College (2-5, 0-3 SAC). The Drovers improve to 10-6 against the Tigers all-time, dating to 2018. Furthermore, USAO has emerged victorious in each of the last four meetings between the conference foes. 

Saturday's first set was evenly matched early on, but the Drovers began to pull away late and claimed a 25-18 win. USAO was in full control of the second set and took a two-set advantage with a 25-13 performance. The teams traded points in the third frame, but the Drovers outlasted the Tigers 25-20 to wrap up the sweep.

As a team, the Drover offense produced a .176 attack percentage with 41 kills, while the Tigers recorded a -.021 attack percentage and 21 kills. USAO's setters dished out a total of 38 assists, meanwhile the defense produced 45 digs and 12.0 total blocks. Central Christian produced 21 assists, 33 digs, and 12.0 total blocks. Additionally, USAO recorded three service aces, while committing five service errors, in comparison to CCC's two aces and seven errors. 

The USAO offense was once again led by Chloe Conover, producing 11 kills on a .438 attack percentage. Conover also tallied six digs and a block assist. Victoria Wright added nine kills, two digs, and two block assists.

Morgan Kobe contributed six kills and three block assists, trailed by Giselle Calderon with five kills and three block assists.

Ytzel Garcia distributed 20 assists, along with five digs, while Bailey Makahununiu dished out 12 assists and recorded a pair of aces.

Brynlee Birney anchored the defense with a match-high of 13 digs, along with three assists. Samantha Perez added 10 digs, two kills, and an ace.

The Drovers will now head to the Lone Star State for a match at Texas Wesleyan University on Friday, Sept. 12 at 6:00 PM CT in Fort Worth, Texas.
