Volleyball Season Comes to a Close at SAC Tournament

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Tuesday evening, the No. 8 seeded University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (10-19, 6-14 SAC) made their third consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament and suffered a three-set loss on the road against top seeded Southwestern Assemblies of God University (23-6, 19-1 SAC). 

 

 The Drovers kept the score close and only trailed by one late in the opening set (18-17). However, SAGU managed to go on a 7-1 run to close out the set 25-18. The Lions took an early lead in the second set, holding a 13-4 lead midway through the set and went on to win the set 25-12 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. SAGU opened the third set on a 6-0 run and held a 13-3 lead midway through the set, prior to closing out the match with a 25-11 win.

 

At the conclusion of the match, the USAO offense produced 21 kills on a .062 attack percentage, while SAGU had 43 kills on an impressive .348 attack percentage. The Drover defense contributed 31 digs and 5.0 total blocks, while the Lions had 50 digs and 4.0 blocks. USAO scored on four aces, while SAGU scored on 12 aces. 

 

Bruna Duarte and Gabrielle Gunnoe led USAO's offense with six kills each. Madison Garcia finished with a team-high of 13 assists, along with five digs. Kalaya Pierce added eight assists.

Yaiza Larrauri and Soleil Trejo anchored USAO's defense with eight digs each.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

USAO will now head into the offseason and begin preparations for the 2024 season. Congrats on a great season Drovers!!
