Gunnoe Powers USAO Past SCU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Thursday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-9, 5-7 SAC) snapped a three-match skid with an impressive four-set victory against Southwestern Christian University (4-14, 1-10 SAC). With the win, the Drovers have now won five consecutive matches against the Eagles. 

 

The Drovers were red hot to open the match and held an early lead, but the Eagles stormed back to take the first set 25-22. However, USAO would recover to win each of the next three sets. USAO held off SCU for a 25-21 win in the second set, followed by a dominant 25-12 triumph in the second set. The Drovers put the match away as they held off the Eagles' comeback attempt with a 25-23 performance in the fourth set.

 

At the conclusion of the match, USAO concluded with 68 total points scored, while SCU finished with 56.5. The Drover offense closed with 47 kills on a .136 attack percentage, while the Eagles produced 42 kills on a .065 attack percentage. The Drover defense contributed 77 digs and 14.0 total blocks, while the Eagles had 88 digs and 10.5 blocks. USAO scored on seven aces, while SCU only produced four. 

 

Gabrielle Gunnoe was sensational as she led the USAO offensive attack, contributing a season-high of 16 kills on a .229 attack percentage. Additionally, Gunnoe provided four block assists and one solo block. 

Isaline Jacqucemyn concluded with eight kills and a pair of block assists, followed by Bruna Duarte with seven kills and three block assists.

Samantha Perez did a little bit of everything as she recorded five kills, three digs, two aces, and 6.5 total blocks. 

Victoria Southerland provided four kills and four digs, while Tara Utornik and Jaedyn Adams-Brown each added three kills. 

Kalaya Pierce recorded her third double-double of the season as she tallied a team-high of 24 assists, along with 11 digs. Madison Garcia followed with 16 assists and eight digs. 

Andrea Maldonado recorded nine digs and a trio of assists, while Katelyn Armendariz added six digs and a pair of aces. Yaiza Larrauri added a match-high of 24 digs on defense. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will be back in action on Saturday, October 7 as they play a double-header in Sterling, Kan. USAO will open the day against Friends University at 3:00 PM CT, followed by a matchup with Sterling College at 5:00 PM.
