Salinas and de Jong Each Score Twice as #23 USAO Cruises to Victory at WBU

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Tuesday evening, the No. 23 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (11-1-1, 4-1 SAC) claimed a dominant 5-1 triumph on the road at Wayland Baptist University (2-9, 1-4 SAC). The Drovers are now 19-4 against the Pioneers all-time, dating back to October of 2007. Furthermore, USAO has won each of the last nine meetings against WBU.

The Pioneers caused some havoc in the opening minute, which led to a WBU goal only 24 second into the contest. The Drovers pulled the score even in the 19th minute as Daniela Salinas scored her 11th goal of the season, assisted by Chiara Schillinger. Neither team was able to score again for the remainder of the half and the teams were locked at 1-1 going into the break.

Following halftime, the Drovers quickly took a 2-1 lead as Ilse de Jong scored her fifth goal of the season on a long free-kick in the 49th minute. De Jong struck for her sixth goal of the season in the 60th minute as she whipped in a shot on a corner-kick. Salinas scored her second of the game and 12th of the season in the 84th minute, once again assisted by Schillinger to extend the USAO lead to 4-1. Dagbjort Gudmundsdottir pushed the lead to 5-1 in the 88th as she scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Schillinger.

As a team, USAO attempted 27 shots, with 14 being on goal, while WBU attempted only seven shots, four of which were on target. WBU was whistled for seven fouls, while USAO only committed two infractions. USAO attempted eight corner kicks and WBU had only one attempt out of the offensive corners.

Ashlyn Lonberg got the start between the pipes for USAO and stopped three of the four shots she faces, earning her eighth win of the season. With the victory, Lonberg owns an incredible career win-loss record to 19-2-1.

Daniela Salinas now ranks second in the Sooner Athletic Conference in goals (12), as well as second in points (26).
