#24 USAO Scores a Pair of Late Goals to Defeat MACU and Remain Unbeaten
CHICKASHA, Okla. – Tuesday evening, the No. 24 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (9-0-1, 2-0 SAC) extended their win streak with a thrilling 2-1 triumph against arch-rival Mid-America University (6-2-2, 1-1 SAC). With the win, the Drovers have emerged victorious in 20 of the last 22 matchups against the Evangels, dating back to September of 2008. Furthermore, the Drovers are unbeaten through the first 10 games this season, having outscored their opponents 30-9.
After Tuesday's contest opened with a scoreless first half, the Evangels claimed the first lead, scoring their lone goal in the 55th minute.
Down but not out, USAO managed to score a pair of goals in the final seven minutes to claw their way to victory. Ashlee Davison tied the score at 1-1 in the 83rd minute, scoring her third goal of the season off an assist from Dagbjort Gudmundsdottir. Davison has now scored in three consecutive games.
The Drovers then claimed the lead in the 88th minute as Gudmundsdottir found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
As a team, USAO attempted 18 shots, with 13 being on goal, while MACU attempted only five shots, three of which were on target. The Drovers were whistled for eight fouls, while the Evangels committed seven infractions. USAO attempted nine corner kicks and MACU had zero attempts out of the offensive corners. The rivalry game was a physical one as expected, with three MACU players and a coach earning yellow cards, while USAO had one player issued a yellow card.
Ashlyn Lonberg was stellar as usual between the pipes for USAO, stopping two of the three shots she faced. With the win, Lonberg now owns an incredible career win-loss record to 17-1-1.
