#24 USAO Dominates Nelson to Extend Unbeaten Streak

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday evening, the No. 24 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-0-1, 1-0 SAC) opened conference play, and extended their unbeaten streak with a dominant 5-1 victory against Nelson University (5-5, 0-1 SAC). With the win, the Drovers have emerged victorious in all eight matchups against the Lions, dating back to October of 2018.

 The Drovers wasted no time to claim the lead, as Ilse de Jong scored her third goal of the season in the third minute of the game. The score remained 1-0 until the 18^th minute when Daniela Salinas scored her ninth goal of the season, assisted by de Jong. USAO remained in control of the 2-0 lead going into halftime. 

Following the break, USAO quickly added to their lead as Daniela Salinas struck for her 10th goal of the season in the 48^th minute, assisted by Ashlee Davison. Five minutes later, Ashlee Davison found the twine off an assist from Mabel Cremers. 

Nelson trimmed their deficit to 4-1 in the 75^th minute, but USAO was able to reestablish a four-goal lead in the 80^th minute, off the foot of Paula Casajus, with an assist from Marleen Harbers.

As a team, USAO attempted 23 shots, with eight being on goal, while Nelson attempted just 10 shots, four of which were on target. The Drovers were whistled for five fouls, while the Lions committed six infractions.

Ashlyn Lonberg was stellar as usual between the pipes for USAO, stopping three of the four shots she faced. With the win, Lonberg now owns an incredible career win-loss record to 16-1-1.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will return to McLaughlin Field on Tuesday, October 1 as they host a highly anticipated double-header against MACU. The women's game is scheduled to kick-off at 5:00 PM CT, followed by the men's game at 7:30 PM CT.
