Turnovers Plague USAO on the Road at Langston

LANGSTON, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (17-7, 12-6 SAC) struggled to take care of the basketball and was dealt a 71-65 loss on the road at Langston University (21-2, 15-2 SAC).

 

The Drovers got off to a strong start and led 10-4 midway through the opening quarter. However, the Lions closed the quarter on a 16-9 run and took a 20-19 lead into the second. Langston was in full control of the second quarter, outscoring USAO 22-12 to take a comfortable 42-31 advantage into the break.

Following halftime, the third quarter was tightly contested with Langston narrowly outscoring USAO 16-13 and took a 58-44 advantage into the final 10 minutes of the game. The Drovers got hot in the fourth, outscoring the Lions 21-13, but it was too little, too late.

 

USAO's offense closed the game shooting 25-45 (.556) from the field, 7-12 (.583) from beyond the arc, but only 8-16 (.500) from the free-throw line. In comparison, Langston only shot 27-69 (.391) from the field, 6-28 (.214) from deep, and 11-22 (.500) from the charity stripe.

The Drovers scored 32 points in the paint and hauled in 37 rebounds. In comparison, the Lions scored 36 points in the paint and grabbed 35 rebounds.

USAO committed a staggering 28 turnovers, resulting in 22 points for LU, while the Lions fumbled the ball only 11 times, leading to 10 points for the Drovers. USAO was whistled for 15 fouls, while Lions were called for 17 violations.

 

Chaniya Felton paced the offense with 21 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.

Jordyn Rollins provided 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, followed by Evangelia Davlakou with 11 points and three rebounds.

Nyapar Mathot added eight points and 10 rebounds, while Mya Brown closed with five points and two assists.

Ti'Alone Banks finished with six points and four rebounds.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will look to bounce back on Thursday, Feb. 12 as they travel to Texas Wesleyan University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT in Fort Worth, Texas.
