Drovers Remain Perfect at Home with 10-Point Win Against Oklahoma Wesleyan
CHICKASHA, Okla. – Thursday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (10-2, 6-1 SAC) earned a 76-66 triumph in a non-conference matchup against Oklahoma Wesleyan University (6-7, 1-6 KCAC). The win gives USAO a bit of a taste of revenge after OKWU won last year's meeting 75-56 in Bartlesville.
The first half was tightly contested, but the Drovers were able to use a late run to take a 23-15 advantage into the second quarter. The teams traded baskets in the second quarter, with each team scoring 15 points and USAO took a 38-30 lead into the break.
Following halftime, the teams continued to exchange runs, with USAO outscoring OKWU 17-14 in the third quarter and possessed a 55-44 lead heading into the fourth. The Drovers led by 15 points with 7:34 remaining, but the Eagles cut into their deficit slightly in the closing minutes, but it was too little, too late for OKWU.
USAO's offense closed the game shooting 26-58 (.448) from the field, 7-19 (.368) from beyond the arc, and 17-24 (.708) from the free-throw line. In comparison, Oklahoma Wesleyan shot 23-60 (.383) from the field, 7-20 (.350) from deep, and 13-14 (.929) from the charity stripe.
The Drovers scored 34 points in the paint and hauled in 30 rebounds. In comparison, the Eagles scored 28 points in the paint and grabbed 30 rebounds.
USAO committed 16 turnovers, resulting in 14 points for OKWU, while the Eagles fumbled the ball 14 times, leading to 11 points for the Drovers. USAO was whistled for 15 fouls, while OKWU was called for 20 violations.
USAO once again was led by a well-balanced attack with six players scoring eight points or more. Jordyn Rollins led the way with 15 points on 6-9 shooting from the field, including 3-5 from three-point range. Rollins also hauled in five rebounds, dished two assists, and blocked two shots. Rollins currently leads the Sooner Athletic Conference in field goal percentage (58.8) and ranks second in three-point percentage (48.5).
Evangelia Davlakou contributed 11 points, three rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Hannah Harris concluded with 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals, while Chaniya Felton tallied 10 points and three boards.
Trinity Humphrey finished with nine points and two rebounds, trailed by Pashonnay Johnson with eight points, two rebounds, and two blocks. Nyapar Mathot closed with six points, five rebounds, and two assists. Mya Brown added five points, three assists, and three steals. Ti'Alone Banks scored two points and grabbed two rebounds.
