TEAM Effort Leads to Impressive Road-Win at JBU

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-2, 5-1 SAC) earned an impressive 70-56 triumph on the road at John Brown University (5-8, 3-4 SAC). 

 

The Drovers were hot early on and began the game on a 12-0 run. JBU was held scoreless for the opening 7:04 minutes of the contest, and USAO proceeded to take a 16-7 advantage into the second. The Drovers defense held the Golden Eagles to 0-11 shooting from the field, until JBU finally made its first basket late in the period.

The second quarter was tightly contested, with USAO narrowly outscoring JBU 18-17 to take a 34-24 lead into the break. 

Following halftime, the teams exchanged baskets, and the Drovers outscored the Golden Eagles 17-14 to hold a 51-38 lead going into the final 10 minutes of the game. The fourth quarter was another close one, but USAO managed to outscore JBU 19-18 to close out the road-win.

 

USAO's offense closed the game shooting 28-62(.452) from the field, 3-14 (.214) from beyond the arc, and 11-20 (.550) from the free-throw line. In comparison, John Brown shot just 18-60 (.300) from the field, 7-30 (.233) from deep, and 13-16 (.813) from the charity stripe. 

The Drovers scored 57 points in the paint and hauled in 41 rebounds. In comparison, the Golden Eagles scored 31 points in the paint and grabbed 40 rebounds. 

USAO committed only eight turnovers, which led to seven points for JBU. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles fumbled the ball 16 times, resulting in 22 points for the Drovers.

USAO was whistled for 19 fouls, while JBU was called for 14 violations.

 

The Drovers used a well-balanced attack to overwhelm the Golden Eagles, with six different players scoring eight points or more. Nyapar Mathot led the way with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. Ti'Alone Banks concluded with 12 points, three rebounds, and a steal. 

Evangelia Davlakou was strong at both ends and contributed 10 points, two assists, and three steals. Chaniya Felton finished with nine points, three rebounds, and three steals, while Pashonnay Johnson scored nine points and grabbed two rebounds. 

Hannah Harris corralled a team-high of 12 rebounds, along with four points. Jordyn Rollins added four points, three rebounds, and a pair of assists. Trinity Humphrey scored two points in four minutes off the bench.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers now look ahead to a huge matchup at Mid-America Christian University on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT in Oklahoma City, Okla.
