Corrales’ Career Performance Leads to Victory in Conference Opener Against SCU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Thursday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (3-1, 1-0 SAC) opened conference play with an impressive 66-52 victory against Southwestern Christian University (1-3, 1-0 SAC). With the win, the Drovers improve to 19-11 against the Eagles all-time, dating back to November of 2012. Furthermore, USAO has won nine of the last ten against SCU since 2021.

 

The Drovers led from start to finish in Thursday's contest and led by as many as 17 points late in the game. 

 

USAO got off to a tremendous start and held a 24-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Both teams scored 14 points in the second quarter and the Drovers took a 38-27 lead into the break.

 

The second half was very evenly matched, with USAO outscoring SCU 14-12 and 14-13 in the final two quarters, respectively. 

 

USAO's offense closed the game shooting 24-57 (.421) from the field, 6-18 (.333) from beyond the arc, and 12-15 (.800) from the free-throw line. In comparison, SCU shot just 16-63 (.254) from the field, 7-31 (.226) from deep, and 13-19 (.684) from the charity stripe. 

The Drovers scored 32 points in the paint and hauled in 49 rebounds. In comparison, the Eagles scored 14 points in the paint and grabbed 35 rebounds. 

USAO committed 10 turnovers, which led to five points for SCU. Meanwhile, the Eagles fumbled the ball nine times, resulting in 12 points for the Drovers.

USAO was whistled for 10 fouls, while SCU was called for nine violations.

 

Alexia Corrales led the Drovers with a career performance, scoring 19 points on 7-10 shooting from the field and 5-5 from the free-throw line. Additionally, she hauled in eight rebounds and dished out two assists.

Evangelia Davalkou contributed 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. 

Anna Kassim concluded with eight points on 3-5 shooting from the field, including 2-3 from deep. Franka Kraus added six points and four rebounds, followed by Davielis Berroa with five points and two rebounds. 

Madison Hays finished with four points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Hannah Harris closed with four points, two rebounds, and two assists. 

Davynn Harris added three points and three rebounds. Ashley Gonzalez scored two points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out two assists. Caroliena Diaz scored two points and corralled two rebounds. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers return to action on Monday, Nov. 18 as they travel to Waxahachie, Texas to face Nelson University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT inside the Sheaffer Center, located on the campus of NU.
