USAO Overwhelms Barclay with Efficient Homecoming Performance

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (2-0, 0-0 SAC) delivered an impressive 109-59 victory in their Homecoming game against Barclay College (0-1, 0-0 MCCC). The Drovers shined on both ends of the court, but especially on the offensive end, scoring over 100 points, while shooting over 50-percent from the field.

 

On Saturday, it took a few minutes for the offenses to get settled in, but USAO held a 21-13 advantage midway through the opening half. The Drovers finished the half strong and took a 50-36 lead into the break.

Following halftime, the Drovers caught fire on offense and locked down on defense, outscoring the Bears 59-23 in the final 20 minutes of the game.

 

USAO's offense closed the game shooting 40-75 (.533) from the field, 5-25 (.200) from beyond the arc, and 24-33 (.727) from the free-throw line. In comparison, Barclay shot 19-63 (.302) from the field, 7-26 (.269) from deep, and 14-21 (.667) from the charity stripe.

The Drovers scored 60 points in the paint and hauled in 52 rebounds. In comparison, the Bears scored 18 points in the paint and grabbed 26 rebounds.

USAO committed 10 turnovers, which led to six points for Barclay. Meanwhile, the Bears fumbled the ball 19 times, resulting in 29 points for the Drovers.

USAO was whistled for 26 fouls, while Barclay was called for 18 violations.

 

The Drovers were led by a pair of 20-point performances from Mohand Ammad and Bryce Cowns. Ammad continued his incredible start to the season with 24 points on 9-14 shooting from the field. The Parisian also recorded his first double-double of the season by grabbing 10 rebounds. Through the first two games of the season, Ammad is averaging 34.5 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game, on .595 shooting from the field and .400 from deep. He is also shooting 23-28 (.821) at the charity stripe.

Cowns has made an instant impact in his first two collegiate games, concluding with 20 points on 8-11 shooting against Barclay. The freshman also grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.

Jamouri McCalister added 12 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Chris Yapo and Sam Faraday-Bensley each concluded with nine points and five rebounds.

Josip Kronja scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.

Roman Lutton did a little bit of everything once again, closing with eight points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Through two games, the Aussie is averaging 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per contest.
Elijah Burney was also a great facilitator, scoring seven points and dishing out five assists in 13 minutes off the bench. Nic Meraz shot from 3-4 from the field and finished with seven points.

The Drovers will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 13 as they host Arkansas Baptist College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT inside Drover Fieldhouse.
