Drovers Keep it Close in Loss Against #24 SAGU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Friday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-12, 5-8 SAC) suffered a three-set loss against No. 24 ranked Southwestern Assemblies of God University (15-6, 11-1 SAC). As ugly as a three-set loss may seem, the match was actually pretty evenly contested for the first two sets. SAGU clung to close victories of 25-21 and 25-23 in the first two sets, followed by a 25-12 victory in the third set.

Neither team had a particularly efficient night on offense, and at the conclusion of the match the Drover offense closed with 22 kills on a -.018 attack percentage, while the Lions produced 33 kills on a .106 attack percentage. The USAO defense contributed 42 digs and 6.0 total blocks, while SAGU had 54 digs and 8.0 blocks. USAO scored on three aces, while SAGU scored on nine aces. 

 Victoria Southerland and Isaline Jacqucemyn led USAO's offense with five kills each. Southerland also produced five digs, two aces, and two block assists. 

Bruna Duarte and Gabrielle Gunnoe each tallied four terminations, followed by Giselle Calderon with three.

Madison Garcia dished out a team-high of 12 assists, along with three digs on defense. Kalaya Pierce recorded eight assists.

Yaiza Larrauri was superb on defense, concluding with a match-high of 18 digs, followed by Andrea Maldonado with 10.

The Drovers will quickly prepare for a match against No. 14 ranked Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 14 at 1:00 PM CT, inside Drover Fieldhouse.
