#23 USAO Scores Three in the Second Half to Win on the Road at SCU
BETHANY, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the No. 23 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (12-1-1, 5-1 SAC) earned their 12th win of the season with a 3-1 victory on the road at Southwestern Christian University (2-6-4, 1-5 SAC). The Drovers are now 15-1 against the Eagles all-time, dating back to October of 2013. Furthermore, USAO has won each of the last 10 meetings against SCU.
The Drovers controlled possession of the ball for majority of the first half but were unable to find the back of the net. However, the Eagles were able to make the most of the few offensive chances they had, and they claimed a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of action.
Following halftime, the Drovers finally struck for the equalizer in the 72nd minute as Daniela Salinas tallied her 13th goal of the season, assisted by Ilse de Jong on a corner-kick. USAO then claimed a 2-1 lead in the 76th minute as de Jong scored her seventh goal of the season on a superb free-kick from outside the top of the box. The Drovers added an insurance goal in the 87th minute as Daniela Salinas scored her second of the game and 14th of the season, off an assist from Ashlee Davison.
As a team, USAO attempted 18 shots, with 10 being on goal, while SCU attempted only seven shots, five of which were on target. The Eagles were whistled for nine fouls, while the Drovers committed eight infractions. USAO attempted six corner kicks and SCU had zero attempts out of the offensive corners.
Ashlyn Lonberg got the start between the pipes for USAO and stopped four of the five shots she faces, earning her ninth win of the season. With the victory, Lonberg owns an incredible career win-loss record to 20-2-1.
Daniela Salinas now ranks second in the Sooner Athletic Conference in goals (14), as well as second in points (30).
