WHAT A COMEBACK! Drovers Score Four Second Half Goals to Win Season Opener at LSUS
SHREVEPORT, La. – Thursday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (1-0, 0-0 SAC) opened the 2024 regular season with an impressive 4-2 comeback victory at Louisiana State University Shreveport (0-1, 0-0 RRAC). The Drovers got behind early and trailed by two at halftime, but used four second half goals to win the opener.
After the game began with 25 minutes of scoreless action, LSUS was able to claim the first lead on Dawniella Torres' goal. Five minutes later, the Pilots added to their lead as Juliana Anchondo found the back of the net. The score remained 2-0 for the rest of the half.
Following the break, the Drovers gained momentum and cut the deficit in half as Daniela Salinas scored on a breakaway in the 67th minute. Salinas delivered a snipe over the LSUS keeper to tie the score at 2-2 in the 77th minute.
USAO continued to roll and scored their third answered goal as Katie O'Keefe scored off an assist from Salinas in the 87th minute. Ilse de Jong delivered the dagger with a strike in the 89th minute to give USAO a commanding 4-2 lead with less than a minute to go in regulation.
As a team, USAO attempted 16 shots, with 10 being on goal, while LSUS attempted nine shots, with five being on target. The Drovers were whistled for seven fouls, while the Pilots committed nine infractions.
Ashlyn Lonberg got the start for USAO between the pipes and earned her first win of the season, stopping three shots. With the win, Lonberg improves her career win-loss record to 12-1.

The Drovers return to the pitch on Saturday, August 24 as they travel to LSU Alexandria. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT in Alexandria, La.
