Drovers Come Up Short in Regular Season Finale at #20 Langston

LANGSTON, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (16-12, 14-10 SAC) was dealt a 63-49 loss in the regular season finale at No. 20 ranked Langston University (26-2, 22-2 SAC). 

 

Langston got off to a hot start and outscored USAO 21-12 in the opening quarter. The Lions continued to control the pace in the second quarter, outscoring the Drovers 15-9 to take a 36-21 advantage into halftime. 

 

Following the break, the teams traded baskets with Langston narrowly outscoring USAO 18-17, giving the Lions a 54-38 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Drovers began to gain momentum in the fourth, outscoring the Lions 11-9, but it was too little, too late.

 

USAO's offense closed the game shooting 19-54 (.352) from the field, 3-12 (.250) from beyond the arc, and 8-12 (.667) from the free-throw line. In comparison, Langston shot 21-59 (.356) from the field, 9-26 (.346) from deep, and 12-12 (1.000) from the charity stripe. 

The Drovers scored 28 points in the paint and hauled in 36 rebounds. In comparison, the Lions scored 22 points in the paint and grabbed 39 rebounds. 

USAO committed 16 turnovers, which led to 21 points for LU. Meanwhile, the Lions fumbled the ball 17 times, resulting in only six points for the Drovers.

USAO was whistled for 14 fouls, while Langston was called for 12 violations.

 

Evangelia Davlakou led the Drovers with 16 points, six rebounds, and five steals. Alexia Corrales added nine points and seven rebounds, followed by Ashley Gonzalez with eight points and four rebounds. 

Hannah Harris contributed five points and seven rebounds, while Madison Hays closed with four points and five rebounds.

Devynn Harris scored three points, followed by Franka Kraus and Davielis Berroa with two points each.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will now head into the postseason as the No. 6 seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament and will face No. 3 seed Mid-America Christian University on Thursday, February 27 in Oklahoma City.
