Drovers Cruise to 38-Point Victory at OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (17-9, 13-7 SAC) delivered a terrific performance on the road, collecting a 94-56 victory at Oklahoma City University (6-20, 5-15 SAC). With the win, the Drovers have emerged victorious each of the last six meetings against the Stars, and USAO improves to 7-30 against OCU in the all-time series, which dates back to January of 2006. Additionally, USAO remains in fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings, with two games remaining in the regular season. The Drovers sit only 2.0 games back of third place (WBU), and 3.0 games back of second (LU) in the conference.

 

The Drovers dominated from start to finish in OKC and opened the contest by outscoring the Stars 29-13 in the first quarter. USAO continued to cruise in the second quarter, outscoring OCU 26-16 and the Drovers held a 54-29 lead at the break.

Following halftime, USAO remained in full control and led 76-43 after three quarters. The Drovers outscored the Stars 18-13 in the final 10 minutes of action.

 

USAO's offense closed the game shooting 37-78 (.474) from the field, 14-36 (.389) from beyond the arc, and 6-9 (.667) from the free-throw line. In comparison, OCU shot 21-57 (.368) from the field, 1-9 (.111) from deep, and 13-18 from the charity stripe. 

The Drovers narrowly outrebounded the Stars by a margin of 37-36, dominated the paint, outscoring the Stars 34-22 down low.

USAO committed nine turnovers, which led to six points for the Stars. Meanwhile, OCU fumbled the ball 21 times, resulting in 27 points for USAO. The Drovers were whistled for 15 fouls, while the Stars were only called for five fouls. 

 

USAO was led by five double-digit scorers, Diaka Berete, Devynn Harris, Jordan Bloomfield, Lainey Morrow, and Crystal Ortiz. Berete concluded with a team-high of 23 points, in addition to five rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Harris knocked down four three-pointers and concluded with 14 points. Bloomfield tallied 13 points on 5-8 shooting from the field, including 3-6 from deep. Morrow recorded her 11th double-double of the season as she contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds. Ortiz concluded with 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals. 

Tonijah Fortune added nine points and five assists, while Trinitee Alexander closed with nine points and six rebounds. Mikayla Green scored five points and stole the ball twice on defense.

 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will return to action on Thursday, February 22 as they host a double-header against Central Christian College. Tip-off of the women's game is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT, followed by the men's game at 7:45 PM inside Drover Fieldhouse.
