#6 USAO Splits Double Header at Day One of NAIA SB Invitational
SHAWNEE, Okla. – Friday afternoon, the No. 9 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (5-1, 0-0 SAC) opened the 2026 NAIA SB Invitational with a double-header split against No. 6 ranked Grand View University and Ottawa University (Kan.). USAO opened the day with a tough 7-3 loss against GVU, followed by a 5-1 win in the second game against OU.
GAME 1 vs No. 6 GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY (2-4, 0-0 HAAC)
After scoring one run in each of the first three innings, the Drovers surrendered seven unanswered runs against the Vikings. GVU trimmed their deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, prior to a six-run rally in the fifth.
As a team, the Drovers offense produced six hits and reached on one walk, while the Vikings tallied seven hits and drew three walks. GVU committed two fielding errors, in comparison to USAO's zero fumbles on defense.
Lakelynn Thompson got the start in the circle for USAO and pitched the opening 4.0 innings, allowing four runs on three hits, and she struck out five batters. Jayden Anderson pitched for 0.2 innings, prior to being relieved by Keylee Beckwith for the final 1.1 innings.
Kinzie Williams and Taylor Cronic led the Drover offense with a pair of two-hit performances. Lakelynn Thompson and Savannah Senkel each singled and scored once.
GAME 2 vs OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (KAN.) (8-3, 0-0 KCAC)
The Drovers once again jumped out to an early lead, pushing across three runs in the bottom of the first inning. USAO scored one run in each of the next two innings to stretch the lead to 5-0 going into the fourth. Ottawa scored its only run in the top of the fourth inning, prior to being shut down for the final three frames.
As a team, the Drovers offense produced 10 hits and reached on one walk, while the Braves tallied six hits and drew two walks. USAO committed a pair of fielding errors, while Ottawa fumbled the ball three times on defense.
Aubree Ferguson was stellar in the circle for USAO, going all 7.0 innings, allowing zero earned runs on six hits, and she struck out seven batters.
The Drover offense was led by a trio of two-hit performances from Jordan Ramsay, Leighanne Eaton, and Lakelynn Thompson. Ramsay finished 2-3 with a run batted in, while Thompson went 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Eaton concluded 2-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.
Maveryck Lightfoot contributed a 1-3 performance that included a pair of runs batted in, and Taylor Cronic went 1-3 with a double and a run scored. Kinzie Williams and Jadyn Goucher each singled in the win.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Drovers return to the field tomorrow (Feb. 21) for a double-header against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and No. 16 Missouri Baptist. First pitch against ERAU is set for 2:45 PM CT, followed by a 5:00 PM CT start time against MBU, at Firelake Ball Fields in Shawnee, Okla.
