CHICKASHA, Okla. – Tuesday afternoon, the No. 1 seed University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (45-7, 31-5 SAC) opened the 2024 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round: presented by Roaster's Market with an incredible 5-3 victory against No. 4 Baker University (34-15, 17-7 HAAC). The thrilling performance also extended USAO's win streak to 26 and they have not suffered a loss since March 23.
On Tuesday, the Drovers trailed early after surrendering two runs in the top of the second inning, followed by one more in the third.
Trailing 3-0 in with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the Drovers strung together a five-run rally, highlighted by Sierra Selfridge's towering grand slam to center field.
Jayden Anderson held the Wildcats scoreless for the remainder of the contest to advance in the winner's bracket.
As a team, USAO reached the bases on eight hits and two Baker fielding errors, meanwhile the Wildcats tallied eight hits and drew three walks.
Selfridge led the USAO offense, going 2-3 with her eighth home run of the year, along with four runs batted in. Malea McMurtrey and Kinzie Williams each finished 2-3 with a run scored. Jadyn Goucher went 1-3 with a double and a run scored, while Leighanne Eaton went 1-3 with a run batted in.
Sophie Williams got the start in the circle for USAO and allowed three runs in 4.0 innings pitched. Williams was relieved by Jayden Anderson for the final 3.0 scoreless innings. Anderson surrendered only two hits, while striking out three batters to improve her record to 14-2.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Drovers will be back in action on Wednesday, May 15 as they face No. 2 Midland University in the winner's bracket. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT at Bill Smith Ballpark.
