#6 USAO Uses a Pair of Run-Rule Victories to Sweep Texas Wesleyan

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the No. 6 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (28-7, 19-5 SAC) extended their win streak to nine with a double-header sweep against Texas Wesleyan University (19-17, 12-12 SAC). USAO began the day with a 9-0 win in Saturday's first game, followed by a dominant 10-0 performance to complete the four-game sweep. On Friday, The Drovers opened the series with a 6-2 victory, followed by a thrilling 4-3 triumph in game two. The Drovers have commanded the all-time series against the Rams, going 33-9 against SCU since March 12, 2013. Additionally, USAO has won 20 of the last 22 against TX WES since April 20, 2018. -GAME 3- After the Drovers held the Rams scoreless in the top of the first inning, USAO took an early lead with four runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Leighanne Eaton's three-run home run. The Drovers scored once in the second, followed by two more in the third to push the lead to 7-0. USAO scored their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a homer from Jadyn Goucher and a RBI-single from Jordan Ramsay. The Rams were held scoreless in the top of the fifth and the game was ended early due to the "mercy rule". Sophie Williams got the start in the circle for USAO and was stellar as she improved her record to 16-4. Williams went 4.0 innings, surrendering zero runs on two hits, and she struck out seven batters. This season, Williams owns a 1.07 earned run average and she has struck out 159 batters in 117.2 innings pitched. Jayden Anderson delivered a scoreless fifth inning. As a team, USAO reached the bases on 13 hits and two walks, while Texas Wesleyan was held to only three hits and one walk. The Rams committed one fielding error and the Drovers were perfect on defense. Macenzie Ruth and Jadyn Goucher led the Drovers at the plate with a pair of three-hit performances. Ruth went 3-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Goucher went 3-3 with a triple, a home run, and three runs scored. Sophie Williams helped her own cause by going 2-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Leighanne Eaton drove in three runs and finished 1-3 with her seventh homer of the season. Malea McMurtrey concluded 1-2 with a walk, a run scored, and a run batted in. Sierra Selfridge, Triniti Cotanny, and Jordan Ramsay each singled in the win. -GAME 4- Much like the first game of the day, the Drovers scored early and often to cruise to a run-rule victory. The Drovers plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning, followed by one in the second and one in the third. USAO brought across five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Abi Gregory got the start in the circle for USAO and improved her record to 4-1 with a 5.0 inning shutout. Gregory surrendered only three hits and she struck out two batters. As a team, USAO reached the bases on nine hits and one walk. Meanwhile, the Rams tallied three hits and four walks. Texas Wesleyan committed four fielding errors and USAO committed two errors in the field. The Drover offense was led by a pair of two-hit performances from Macenzie Ruth and Jadyn Goucher. Ruth finished 2-3 with a double and three runs scored, while Goucher went 2-3 with a double, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Leighanne Eaton singled and scored twice, while Addison Willis and Kamryn James each singled and drove in two runs. Sierra Selfridge and Malea McMurtrey each went 1-2 with a run scored and a run batted in. WHAT'S NEXT? The Drovers will return to action on April 12-13 for a four-game series at Langston University in Langston, Okla.
