#6 USAO Outlasts #12 Mobile to Begin Alabama Road Trip

MOBILE, Ala. – Thursday afternoon, the No. 6 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (9-2, 2-0 SAC) began a five-game road trip in Alabama with an exciting 4-2 extra inning victory at No. 12 University of Mobile (9-4, 4-0 SSAC).

The Drovers managed to capture an early lead, bringing in one run on a sacrifice-fly to deep left field in the top of the first inning. However, the lead was short-lived as the Rams scored a pair of runs to take a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the first. The Drovers pulled the score even on Sierra Selfridge's first homerun of the season in the top of the fourth inning.

The score remained knotted at 2-2 until the top of the eighth inning, when USAO brought in a pair of runs to claim a 4-2 lead. The Drovers held the Rams scoreless in the bottom of the eighth to close out to exhilarating victory on the road.

As a team, the Drovers compiled seven hits from four different players, while the Rams produced four hits from three different players.

Sophie Williams got the start in the circle for USAO, delivering 8.0 innings of work, allowing one earned run on four hits and struck out one batter to improve her record to 6-1 so far this season. Through 39.1 innings of work this season, she has produced a 0.53 earned run average and has struck out 53 batters.

The USAO offense was led by Sophie Williams' three-hit performance, helping out her own cause in the circle. Williams went 3-4 with a run scored. Malea McMurtrey concluded 2-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Leighanne Eaton went 1-3 with a pair of runs batted in. Sierra Selfridge concluded 1-3 with a solo-homerun.
