#9 USAO Splits Double-Header at MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the No. 9 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (26-10, 16-4 SAC) split a double-header on the road at Mid-America Christian University (22-10, 9-7 SAC). Both games went into extra innings, with the Evangels winning the first game 1-0 in nine innings, followed by a 6-5 victory for the Drovers in the eight-inning finale.

Following the split, the Drovers are now 46-12 against the Evangels in the all-time series, which dates back to April 1, 2008. 

 

-GAME 1-

After eight and a half scoreless innings, the Evangels were able to sneak away with a 1-0 victory with a walk-off sacrifice squeeze bunt.

USAO produced one hit in the loss, while MACU produced four hits.

 

Despite suffering the loss, Sophie Williams was superb in the circle for the Drovers. Williams struck out 10 batters in 8.0 innings of work. 

 

Jaclyn Gray accounted for the lone hit for Science & Arts.

 

-GAME 2-

The Evangels carried their momentum into the second game of the day, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, followed by three more in the second. 

The Drovers scored once in the top of the third inning to trim the deficit to 5-1. USAO was able to tie the score at 5-5 as they rallied for four runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The score remained tied until the top of the eighth inning, when Science & Arts was able to push across the go-ahead run. 


Abi Gregory pitched the first inning for USAO, and she was relieved by Lauryn Cottrell who delivered a fantastic performance to earn her first win of the season. Cottrell did not allow an earned run as she struck out seven batters in 7.0 innings of work.

 

As a team, the Drovers strung together 11 hits in the win, led by Tyler Trott's three-hit performance. Jaycee Kievit and Slater Eck each recorded two hits apiece. Kievit went 2-4 with a double, a run scored, and two runs batted in, while Eck went 2-4 with a run and a RBI.

Lauryn Cottrell helped her own cause by going 1-3 with a double, two runs scored, and a run batted in. Jaylee Willis finished 1-3 with a single. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will be back in action on Friday, April 14 as they travel OKC to face No. 7 Oklahoma City University. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 and 7:00 PM at Ann Lacy Stadium.
