USAO’s Late Rally Comes Up Short Against WBU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (4-7-3, 0-4-1 SAC) attempted a late rally, but came up short and suffered a 3-2 loss against Wayland Baptist University (6-3-1, 3-2 SAC). With the loss, the Drovers fall to 10-5-1 against the Pioneers all-time, dating back to November of 2009. 

 After the game was scoreless for the opening 14 minutes of action, the Drovers were able to take the first lead with Matija Malenovic's sixth goal of the season, assisted by Callum Shepherd.

Wayland Baptist managed to even the score at 1-1 with a strike in the 31^st minute of the first half. The score remained 1-1 going into halftime. 

Following the break, the Pioneers quickly took a 2-1 lead with Danial Ruiz's second goal of the game, coming in the 48^th minute. Ruiz completed the hat-trick and stretched WBU's lead to 3-1 with another goal in the 67^th minute.

Down but not out, USAO cut the deficit to one with Callum Shepherd's first goal of the season in the 79^thminute. Despite their best efforts, the Drovers were unable to strike for the equalizer in the final 10 minutes of regulation and suffered the defeat.

As a team, USAO attempted 16 shots, with five being on goal, while WBU attempted nine shots, with five being on target. The Drovers were whistled for 11 fouls, while the Pioneers committed 10 infractions. 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will be back in action on Tuesday, October 17 as they travel to Waxahachie, Texas to face Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The women are scheduled to kick-off at 5:00 PM CT, followed by the men at 7:30 PM.
