USAO’s Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against OCU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Tuesday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (4-5-3, 0-2-1 SAC) was dealt a hard-fought 3-2 defeat against Oklahoma City University (6-3-1, 1-0 SAC). 

 

The first half was very evenly played, but neither team managed to find the back of the net and took a scoreless tie into halftime.

 

Following the break, OCU immediately struck for a pair of goals from Marco Alongi in the 47th minute and 49th minute. USAO was able to cut the deficit to 2-1 on Justin Croke's sixth goal of the season, coming in the 65th minute. However, the Stars once again stretched the lead to 3-1 in the 68th minute, as Alongi scored his third goal of the game to complete the hat-trick. 

Down but not out, the Drovers cut the deficit to one once again, as Zane Zhidov scored his second goal of the season in the 78th minute, assisted by Jin Ogawa. USAO had a couple more scoring chances in the final minutes but were unable to strike for the equalizer before the final buzzer.

 

As a team, USAO attempted 18 shots, with seven being on goal, while OCU attempted 12 shots, with six being on target. The Drovers were whistled for 14 fouls, while the Stars were called for 12 infractions. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will be back in action on Saturday, October 7 when they host Southwestern Christian University on Legends Night. The women's game will kick-off at 5:00 PM CT at McLaughlin Field, followed by a 7:30 PM start time for the men.
