Pogue and Ellis Pace the Drovers at Northwest Iowa National Invitational

LE MARS, Iowa – Monday and Tuesday, the No. 23 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma men's golf team earned a seventh-place result at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational Tournament, hosted by Morningside University. As a team, the Drovers performed well against tough competition and finished at 3-under par.

 

The Northwest Iowa National Invitational was competed at Willow Creek Gourse Course in Le Mars, Iowa, and featured a 6,563-yard, par 71 layout. The Drovers completed with a three-round score of 849 (291, 278, 280). The tournament featured loaded field of top tier opponents, including 11 teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll (No. 2 Oklahoma City, No. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene, No. 7 OUAZ (Ariz.), No. 8 Texas Wesleyan, No. 10 Friends (Kan.), No. 13 The Master's (Calif.), No. 14 Marian (Ind.), No. 17 Northwestern (Iowa), No. 19 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), No. 23 USAO, RV Arizona Christian).

 

USAO was highlighted by a pair of top 10 performances from Parker Pogue and Jaeden Ellis. Pogue delivered the best performance of his career as he shot par or better in all three rounds to finish at 7-under par, good for a tie in seventh. The sophomore opened the tournament with scores of 71 and 64 on Monday, followed by a 71 in the final round on Tuesday.

Ellis scored under-par in all three rounds and concluded in a tie for ninth as he finished 6-under par. He carded rounds of 67 and 70 on Monday, prior to another 70 in the final round. 

Jax Brewer closed in a tie for 19th and finished 2-strokes under par. Brewer shot scores of 73 and 66 on day one, before a 72 on day two.

Conner Cryer, Cooper Hardison, and Luca Gisler concluded in a tie for 44th with identical scores of 218 (+5). Cryer opened with a 77 and a 72 on Monday, prior to finishing strong with a 69 in the third round. Hardison produced scores of 78 and 71 on Monday, before closing with a 69 Tuesday morning. Gisler fired a 74 and 71 in the first two rounds, followed by a 73 in the third. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will return to the course on Oct. 6-7 as they compete at The Hrnciar, hosted by Cameron University at Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Okla.
