Drovers Conclude the Fall with Runner-up Finish in Kansas
NEWTON, Kan. – On Monday, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma men's golf team wrapped up the fall season with an impressive runner-up finish, out of a 14-team field at the Sand Creek Intercollegiate Invitational. The tournament was originally scheduled to be a two-day, 54-hole tournament, but was shortened to one day and 36 holes due to storms in the forecast for Tuesday. The Drovers finished only six strokes back of the winning team, Ottawa University (Kan.), and the runner-up finish is the third top-two finish for USAO in their last four events.
The tournament was competed at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan., and the Drovers completed with a two-round score of 599 (300, 299). The course featured a 6747-yard, par 72 layout in windy conditions.
Jaxen Brewer and Caleb Smith each finished with scores of 148 to lead the Drovers. Brewer fired a 75 in the first round, followed by a 73 in the second round to finish in eighth place, while Smith tallied a 76 in the first round and an amazing 72 in the second round to finish in ninth. Cooper Hardison concluded one stroke back in 11th place with a 149 (73, 76) and Luke O'Dell shot a 150 (74, 76) to finish in 13th. Luca Gisler finished in 19th with a 152 (78, 74), followed by Conner Cryer in 27th with a 155 (78, 77).
Tucker McDonald shot scores of 79 and 78 for a total of 157, while Tate Trotter had rounds of 84 and 76 for a 160.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Drovers will now head into winter break and will prepare for the spring portion of the season, which will begin in early March.
