USAO Falls in Series Finale at Texas Wesleyan

FORT WORTH, Texas – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-14, 5-7 SAC) closed out the weekend with a 10-6 loss in the series finale at Texas Wesleyan University (23-4, 9-3 SAC). The Drovers opened the series with a 9-2 loss, followed by a 3-0 loss in Friday's second game.

 

The Drovers wasted little time to claim an early lead as Conner Martin scored on a balk in the top of the first inning. However, the Rams quickly responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.

TX WES extended their lead to 4-1 with two more runs in the bottom of the third.

USAO reclaimed a 5-4 advantage with a four-run rally in the top of the fourth inning. The Rams once again retaliated with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead going.

Down by two going into the seventh, the Drovers managed to plate one run to trim their deficit to one. However, the Rams added insurance with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game away for good.

 

As a team, the Drovers offense produced 10 hits and reached on three walks, while the Rams tallied 15 hits and drew four walks. The Drovers committed one fielding error, and the Rams were unblemished defensively.

 

Kason Johnson got the start on the mound for USAO and went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, and he struck out one batter. Naton Herchock pitched the following 1.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and struck out two batters. Jake Finkelstein pitched the final two innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

 

USAO's offense was led by a trio of two-hit performances, including Sammy Chapman's 2-3 outing that included a run batted in. Conner Martin went 2-5 with a double, a run scored, and two runs batted in, while Henry Garcia finished 2-5 with a double a run scored, and a run batted in.

Duncan Key, Corey Morro, Alfonso Camacho, and Gabe Clyden each singled in the series finale.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will return to action on Tuesday, March 17 when they host Randall University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM CT at Bill Smith Ballpark.
