Drovers Drop Two at TX WES

FORT WORTH, Texas – Friday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-13, 5-6 SAC) was dealt a pair of losses on the road at Texas Wesleyan University (22-4, 8-3 SAC). The Drovers opened the series with a 9-2 loss, followed by a 3-0 loss in the second game of the day.

 

GAME 1

After holding USAO scoreless in the top of the first inning, the Rams rallied for three runs to take the early lead.

The Drovers trimmed their deficit to 3-2 in the top of the second, but the Rams immediately retaliated with four more runs to take a 7-2 lead into the third. TX WES added insurance with two runs in the third and that was all that was needed to win the series opener.

 

As a team, the Drovers offense produced seven hits and reached on three walks, while the Rams tallied 12 hits and drew two walks. Both teams were unblemished on defense.

 

Tyson Noel got the start on the mound for USAO and went 2.0 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and he struck out a batter. Jaxon McDonald entered in the third inning and pitched the following two innings, surrendering two runs on two hits and he struck out a batter. Chris Ottinger pitched two scoreless innings and fanned one batter.

Corey Morro went 1-2 with a walk and scored a run, and Brandon Latter went 1-3 with a run batted in.

USAO offense was led by a pair of two-hit performances from Duncan Key and Gabe Clyden. Key finished 2-3 with a double, while Clyden went 2-3 with a run batted in. Connor Martin finished 1-4 at the plate.

 

GAME 2

Game two began with two scoreless innings, before TX WES scored once in the bottom of the third. The Rams maintained a one-run lead until the bottom of the sixth when they added a pair of insurance runs. The Rams held off the Drovers in the seventh to sweep the double header.

 

As a team, the Drovers offense produced four hits and reached on zero walks, while the Rams tallied eight hits and drew zero walks. TX WES was perfect on defense, while USAO committed a pair of fielding errors.  

 

Brian Ereu got the start on the mound for USAO and went all 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and he struck out four batters.

 

Connor Martin, Henry Garcia, Corey Morro, and Gabe Clyden each singled in the loss.

The Drovers and Rams will complete the three-game series on Saturday at noon in Fort Worth, Texas.
