Drovers Cruise to Victory in Home-Opener Against McPherson

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Thursday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (3-1, 0-0 SAC) cruised to a 9-4 victory in their home-opener against McPherson College (1-4, 0-0 KCAC).
The Drovers grabbed an early lead by bringing in a trio of runs in each of the first two innings of the game. The score remained 6-0 until the top of the fifth when the Bulldogs scored their first runs of the day on a two-run homerun. USAO began to extend their lead again with one run in the bottom of the sixth, followed by two more insurance runs in the seventh. McPherson brought in a pair of runs in garbage time, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.
Both offenses did a good job at producing hits and reaching the bases, but the Drovers made the most of their opportunities. USAO concluded with 12 hits and reached base on nine walks, while McPherson tallied 10 hits and reached on only one walk.
Brian Ereu continued to shine on the mound and improved his record to 2-0 by only allowing two earned runs in 5.0 innings, and he struck out eight batters, while only surrendering five hits. Tristan Perry tossed a scores sixth inning and struck out one batter, followed by two scoreless innings from Hagen Earls, in addition to three strikeouts. Rob Schmidt pitched the final inning of the win for USAO.
USAO was led by a trio of multi-hit performances from Christopher Martinez, Gabriel Arroyo, and Gunnar Hansen. Martinez concluded 3-4 with two doubles, a walk, two runs scored, and two runs batted in, while Arroyo went 3-6 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Gunnar Hansen drove in a trio of runs as he went 2-5 with a double.
Gage Ninness, Peyton McDowall, and Ben Bach each singled, walked, scored, and drove in a run. Ben Lawson made his season debut and went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored.

The Drovers and Bulldogs will return to Bill Smith Ballpark for a double-header on Friday, beginning at 2:00 PM CT.
