HE BLEEDS GREEN! Yokum Tabbed as Assistant Sports Information Director

CHICKASHA, Okla – Wednesday morning, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma announced the hiring of Matthew Yokum as the Assistant Sports Information Director.

Yokum assumes the role after graduating in the spring with a bachelor's degree in communications, and he worked on the sports information crew over the last four years.

During his time at USAO, Yokum was also a member of the men's soccer program for two years. He also wrote for the university's online student publication, The Trend, serving as Editor-in-Chief for his final two semesters.

While in college, Yokum gained valuable media experience through several positions across Oklahoma. He began as an intern with the Lawton Constitution, where he spent three months writing beat stories before being promoted to a part-time sports reporter. In that role, he covered local football and basketball for five months.

Yokum also spent time as a Matchday Operations Intern with FC Tulsa for nine months, helping support gameday operations, community engagement, and event planning. During his time at the club, FC Tulsa won a conference championship and hosted the USL Championship Final at ONEOK Field.

In addition, Yokum most recently gained experience with Chickasha radio station KOOL 105.5, providing commentary for local high school basketball games during the 2025-2026 season.

A Chickasha native, Yokum was born and raised in the community, graduated from Chickasha High School, and continues to call Chickasha home while building his career at USAO.
