Drovers Drop Series Finale at #19 MACU
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (19-22, 13-14 SAC) suffered a 15-5 loss on the road against No. 19 ranked Mid-America Christian University (33-11, 20-7 SAC). Thursday night, the Drovers dropped the series opener 3-1, followed by a 4-3 triumph in game two.
In total, the Drovers own a 53-22 record against the Evangels in head-to-head matchups since 2005. Furthermore, USAO has won 42 of the last 53 meetings between the rivals.
The Drovers got off to a great start on Saturday, as Connor Martin launched a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning, his fifth of the year. USAO then extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third as Corey Morro connected on a two-run homer.
However, MACU would begin to catch fire and pulled the score even with three runs in the bottom of the third, prior to a six-run rally in the fourth.
The Drovers scored their final two runs in the top of the sixth, prior to the Evangels scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth, and two in the seventh to end the game via the run-rule.
As a team, the Drovers offense produced eight hits and reached on seven walks, while the Evangels tallied 16 hits and drew six walks. USAO committed two fielding error, while MACU was unblemished defensively.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Drovers now head into the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 7 seed and will travel to No. 2 MACU for a best-of-three series next weekend (April 24-25) in Oklahoma City. The winner of the series will advance to the tournament's final site at Joe Becker Ballpark in Joplin, Mo., beginning May 1.
